The twenty-fourth season of the biggest fashion happening in North Macedonia, puts an emphasis on the multimedia project #NoWasteMK, with a rich three-day programme that will be realised from October 1st to 3rd in three different locations: Skopje, Bitola and Shtip.
Digital fashion presentations and an exclusive showroom with new collections by emerging and established names from our scene, art performances and exhibitions of products from world-renowned domestic innovators, educational workshops, roundtables and online discussions with top notch professionals from the creative industry, as well as the best of Macedonian gastronomy, is just a part of what the public will have the opportunity to experience during the first weekend of October.
Under the slogan “Beyond the Fields”, the autumn edition of Fashion Weekend will premiere in Bitola and Shtip from 01.10 (Friday) to 03.10 (Sunday). The selection of diverse locations outside the city of Skopje is in the spirit of enthralling project #NoWasteMK, which will mark the twenty-fourth season of the event, realised through the Circular Design Assembly grant awarded by the British Council and facilitated by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
“Fashion Weekend Skopje opens a new chapter for an invigorating circular future. Merging art, science and business initiatives with innovative designs, technologies and materials that eliminate waste and pollution, our mission is to drive a positive impact on the fashion value chain across the country. Inspired by nature for nature.” – point out the organizers of the event.
The event is a fusion of physical and virtual activities supported by the Textile Trade Association – Textile Cluster (TTA-CT) and Fashion Revolution North Macedonia, which will valorize the values of the circular economy as a model for sustainable development and revitalization of the environment locally and globally.
The initiative arose in response to Responsible Fashion Series Skopje, the international webinar organized by FWSK in collaboration with Ian King, professor of aesthetics and management at the Istituto Marangoni. Sustainable fashion, green innovations and conscious consumerism had emerged as today’s keys – for a responsible future tomorrow.
The project’s original concept is to showcase fashion and agriculture jointly, revealing how clothing and food production are related, perhaps even more than we might assume, thus creating an experimental collection that will unite the two seemingly disparate fields, along with a short documentary featuring all stages of the creative process – from idea to final product.
“We live in a country which has always nurtured a special relationship to the cultivation and consumption of healthy and organic food from the region. Can we replicate this tradition and discipline in our contemporary fashion habits? As organizers of the event, our vision is to educate new generations on the subject. To investigate thoroughly the link between ‘slow food’ and ‘slow fashion’ and to provide insights on how to interwine the two concepts in the most fruitful ways for the future.”– concludes the FWSK team.
For more details, news, and latest updates, both related to the programme and the list of participants who will present themselves to the audience this autumn, the public can get daily information on the official website of Fashion Weekend Skopje, plus the social networks Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
The change begins here and now! Together.
